The Water Was Here First
In southern Tunisia, the town of Gafsa holds a forgotten oasis — a Roman-era basin nestled in the heart of a phosphate mining region. For generations, it was filled with spring water, a place where children learned to swim and communities gathered. Today, the water is mostly gone. But when it returns, even briefly, so do the people. What’s gone isn’t truly lost — not if it’s remembered.
